Centuries ago, mankind was slaughtered near to extinction by monstrous humanoid creature called titans, forcing who had survives to hide in fear behind enormous concentric walls. To ensure their survival, the remnants of humanity began living within defensive barriers, resulting in one hundred years without a single titan encounter. However that fragile calm is soon shattered when a colossal titan manages to breach the supposedly impregnable outer wall, reigniting the fight for survival against the man-eating abominations.(MyAnimeList.com)

Before I start my review, I can say this is one of the most famous shounen animes in the recent years, that will continue the legacy of shounen anime even after legendary animes like Naruto ends. At first, the plot is pretty simple, it is a story about a child that want to take revenge on titans that have taken everything from him by becoming a soldier. But, don't underestimate this show, it is really a great show with a captivating plot that bring a breath of fresh air to the anime industry. The first episode of this show will make one thing clear for you, whether you will watch until the end or you will drop right after the first episode. This is because the first episode will show you what will happen throughout the 25 episodes. If you are the type that can't handle violence and gore, this show is not for you, and you may want to stick with Naruto and One Piece. The plot will get more complex throughout the series, and at the end of the this first season, you will realize this anime is more than just human trying their best to survive and get their freedom from the titan. For the plot of this story, I will give 8 out of 10 to this show because the plot is absolutely not a cliche but at the same time, there are many aspects that could be improved.

Now, the characters are one of the most interesting aspects in this anime. The story starts with 3 main characters, Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, and Armin Arlert growing up together as childhood friends in the Wall Maria. As the story progress, they will find new friends and enemies to achieve what they want the most in their lives, freedom. There is a variety of interesting characters in the world of Shingeki no Kyojin that have their own reasons to survive. Of course, the fan-favourite Levi is one of them. He appears in the second half of the show but he will steal your heart the moment you see him. He is cool, strong, badass, and a clean freak. There is also a comedic relief among characters like Sasha Blouse that will lighten the story a little bit. Unfortunately, all of these fascinating characters did not get much character development that they need because the show's focus is too much on Eren. Even Mikasa' character development is relatively flat throughout the 25 episodes. So, to summarize, I will give 9 out of 10 because of many promising characters but lacks of character development.

Proceed to the animation of this show, it is one of the best I've ever seen. It is a fact that everyone that have seen this anime will agree. The titans, the fight scenes, the way humans using 3D gear, almost everything in this anime is too good to be missed by all anime fans. All characters design is also attractive and distinct. You will get goosebumps from the fight scenes between titans and humans. the animation really elevate the show, by a lot. The last time I got goosebumps when watching action scenes like this is when I watch Ultraman fighting monsters as a kid. The world portrayed in this show is also beautiful. You can feel how much efforts the Wit Studio put in this anime. They really go all out in every aspects. For the animation in this show, I will gladly give 10 out of 10.

The last part of this review would be music and sound. There are 2 openings and 2 endings, and believe me, no one will skip the opening, never. The opening is just too epic to skip. For your information, both of the openings are performed by Linked Horizon. The first opening is Guren no Yamiya and the second is Jiyuu no Tsubasa. The songs want to hype the audiences and they nailed it. Kudos to Linked Horizon for producing these two songs. You will really feel like a soldier that want to sacrifice for the country because of the openings. The background music also fit the scenes, especially the fight scenes. For music and sound, I rate 9 out of 10 because of the great openings but the endings is just fine, nothing special.

In the conclusion, this is one of the animes that start the new era of shounen anime by offering something different from the typical anime you see. Of course, the hero is the type that never gives up but the narrative of this story is really brilliant that you feel this is completely an original idea. As a reminder, make sure you are not attached to a character too much. they are in a war against titans, they can lose their lives anytime. This is also one of the few animes that you will not get bored even after you watch it hundreds time. Overall, I will score Shingeki no Kyojin 9 out of 10.

Thank you for reading.
