My Hero Academia, another rising shounen anime that strives to become the new "Big Three" in the new era replacing One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach. When this anime first aired in 2016, it is very famous because the world resembles movies created by Marvel and DC Comics. The world was filled with people that have superpowers or called 'quirk' in My Hero Academia. Nonetheless, there are a few differences where in My Hero Academia, 80% of humanity have quirk, compared to movies in the Hollywood where only the chosen ones get the special powers. Another difference is that whoever that pursue to become a hero need to attend school to get their license. Yes, they need to attend school to be a hero unlike in Hollywood movies where anyone could be a hero if they have power or money.

This is a shounen anime, so don't expect heavy plot. The main focus of the show is Midoriya Izuku, a boy whose dream is to become the strongest hero like his idol, All Might. Unfortunately, he is categorized as quirkless. Just when he thought he had lost his dream, a ray of light appears before him, giving him the last chance he desires to become the hero he always wanted to be. For me, one word summarize the show, it is 'epic'. Nearly in every episodes, you could see the determination of Deku as he fights his way to the top by battling with evil or competing with his classmates to be the best. But, the season only has 13 episodes, so there is no much of space for character development, even for our main protagonists. The part that I really loves about this anime that it shows that anyone literally could be a hero because majority of humanity have special powers, the question is how they used it. Unlike in Marvel or DC Movies where only selected people have the opportunity to be the hero. So, for the plot of this show, I will rate it 8 out of 10.

Now, let's move to the characters of the show. This show have too much of characters that I think 13 episodes is too short for them. Each one of them have their own personalities. For starters, we've got the energetic Deku, the stubborn Bakugou, the calm and collected Todoroki, the cheerful Uraraka and the lists will never end. The characters are so interesting that you want to know every part of their lives. There may  be characters that you hate like the pervert Mineta, but deep down you realize he is the character you can relate the most. If you follow closely all the shounen anime that exist, you will see the differences between Midoriya and other main hero in shounen  anime like Luffy or Goku. The main difference would be that Midoriya is a clever character compared to them. In the early of the show, it is obvious that Midoriya is a hero with many flaws. So, rather than overcome the problems that appears with determination and brute strength alone, he always use his brain. That alone sets him apart from other main characters in most shounen anime. To sum up, I will rate the characters in this anime 9 out of 10.

The next part in my review would be the music and sound. This anime has only one opening and ending. The opening is "The Day" performed by Porno Grafitti and the ending is "HEROES" by Brian the Sun. As usual, the opening is always better than the ending. Anyway, when you see the opening you will realize how much Midoriya idolize All Might. I also kind of like the part where the opening introduce the characters with their name. With so many characters introduced at early episodes, it's kind of difficult to remember them. So, the opening did their job well and the audiences can remember the characters easily this way while enjoying the song. The ending is forgettable, sorry to say. The best thing is absolutely the background music. It is one of the best in among the shounen anime. The music really synchronize with the show, especially the battle between heroes and monsters. After watching the show, you will realize that they have their own background music. When their own background sound fuse with important battles, it will become epic. You just can feel it. To conclude, I will score the music of this anime 8.5 out of 10.

At last, the animation of the anime. To be honest, the animation of this show is kind of unique compared to other shounen anime. If you are a hardcore anime fans, you will see the difference between this show and others. I am not saying the animation is bad, it is just that they have their own style of animation and it is good. I think the they are trying to stay true to the manga with their style of animation. Kudos to the Bones Studio for producing the show, they nailed it. They also manage to bring the iconic moments from manga to life with their hard works. When you see what they have done in this 13 episodes, you will want to watch it again. It never bores me how much time I watch it. The design of characters also looks good. There are a bit of ecchi, but not so obvious. So, for the animation of the show, I will gladly give 8.5 out of 10.

In a nutshell. this is a new shounen anime that should be given a chance by viewers. But, please do not compare them to other big shounen anime like One Piece, Naruto, or Bleach. Even though this is seasonal anime, unlike One piece that have new episodes every week, they still manage to grab a huge amount of audience. At the time this article is written, the anime already announced the 5th season in 2021. So, fans have a lot of episodes to rewatch when waiting the 5th season to air. For me, this anime comes perfectly at the time most of older shounen anime like Naruto are ending. When the first season aired, it is like an announcement "I am the new generation of shounen anime". They really succeeded in continuing the tradition of shounen anime where there is a never-give up main character but My Hero Academia manage to bring a new fresh air in it. For me, I really enjoying my time watching the show and I will happily rate it 8.5 out of 10. That's all from me, thanks for reading.
