Naruto, a great memory from my childhood. I still remember watching every episode in Saturday. Writing a review about this anime make me a bit emotional as I keep remembering many iconic moments from the show. The fighting between Naruto and Neji, the battle between Naruto, Jiraiya, and Tsunade against Orochimaru and Kabuto, just to name a few. This show really has an enormous influence in the world. If in the past, when we were discussing about ninja, we will think about someone that move fast quietly and throws shuriken. Today, if we talk about ninja, all ridiculous techniques from Naruto will come to our mind. Anyway, the legendary adventure of Naruto to become a hokage starts when he is still a newborn. When a nine-tailed demon fox terrorized the Konohagakure, the Fourth Hokage seals the demon in Naruto to stop it from destroying Konoha. Now, as an ambitious kid, he is isolated by the villagers due to the demon inside him. To get acknowledges by the whole village, he is determined to become a Hokage, the protector of the village.
Firstly, the plot in Naruto really suits its target audience, boys. It is straightforward, not complicated or mind blowing like Inception or Tenet. But, the plot has its own soul that the show manages to keep being relevant to the fans for years. Even new anime fans that never watch Naruto when it is aired love the concept brought by Naruto. The plot is very engaging and fascinating that every episode has new materials to offer for the fans. There are many arcs in the show and in every arc, the plot is different. In a certain arc, the plot is about saving your kidnapped friend, or in another arc, the plot is about go through exams. The plots have their own theme and it connects with each other. Every arc will influence the next arc, one of many unique aspects that made anime fans love shounen. You will invest a lot of time to watch a lot of episodes and it will satisfy you, you have my guarantee. So, for the plot, it is simple yet captivating at the same time, I will rate 8 out of 10.
To the next part, the best part in Naruto, the characters. You will never being bored with its characters. There are ton of characters that exist in the show. The characters are distinct to each other and have their own powers. The main characters would be Uzumaki Naruto, Uchiha Sasuke, Haruno Sakura and Hatake Kakashi. But, other side characters like Lee and Nara Shikamaru also stand out for their characteristics. Shikamaru is the person that we always want to be, a born-genius that can be lazy but still pass the exams. Lee is the type that goes from zero to hero. He is one of the ninja that can't use ninjutsu but still determine to become a strong ninja. Just watch his fight against Gaara and I assure you will be mesmerized by his actions. In terms of villain, Uchiha Itachi and Orochimaru will rile you up with their powers. They are strong and have a lot allies behind them. To simplify, all the characters in Naruto are the best and I'm going with 10 over 10.
Besides that, the animation of the show is quite pleasing to me, at least. For new fans of anime, the outdated animation of Naruto may disturbing them, but they are still good animation. Especially during fight between characters, the animators really didn't messed up. I forgot to mention that Studio Pierrot and they succeeded in bringing the manga to live. I believe that even new fans of anime still can enjoy Naruto because the animation is still fantastic to me. What makes the animation better is that it's not clean. Modern anime tend to make their animation is cleaner which is good but it have less impact. For example, when Lee fights against Gaara, every punch his throw seems heavy and strong that even viewers can feel it. Compare to newer anime that most battles are fluid and clean, it produce less impact to the viewers. So, I consider everything and I will give 8 out of 10 to Naruto in terms of animation.
Finally, the sound and music of this anime. Oh, this show got a lot of openings and endings and it is quite hard to compare them. But, there are several impressive soundtracks such as "Haruka Kanata" by Asian Kung-Fu Generation and "Seishun Kyosokyoku" by Sambomaster. Both of these soundtracks still popular among anime fans until this day especially Haruka Kanata. Just a few seconds of the song and you will recognize it's Naruto's opening. I also still remeber the scene where Kimimaro pulls out the bone from his bofy, that is absolutely iconic. In terms of ending, a few of notable endings would be "Wind" by Akeboshi and "Scenario" by Saboten. In Wind, you can clearly see the loneliness in Naruto when he is pictured as a boy wtih nine tails. To conclude, I will give 8 out of 10 for the music and sound.
In a nutshell, Naruto is one of a few anime that will not be forgotten for its contribution to the industry. It may not be the best anime ever, but it's massive influence can't be denied. Naruto is also a big factor that helps introducing anime to the whole world together with One Piece and Dragon Ball. Needless to say, Naruto is one of the most iconic character in the world because of his adventure. Everyone that grew up watching Naruto will see his sad life that start with parentless as a kid and grew up losing his friends and teachers. Nonetheless, he has a big 'family' consists of people that love him such as Jiraiya and Kakashi. To summarize, I will rate Naruto 8.5 out of 10.
